Bajaj Auto has showcased its all-new Chetak electric scooter at its Akurdi plant in Pune. The e-scooter was first unveiled on 16 October in New Delhi along with the flag of the Chetak Electric Yatra. The journey comprising of 29 days was completed today at the company’s corporate office in Pune. During the Chetak Electric Yatra, 20 riders astride upon Chetak electric scooters traversed for more than 3000kms through major cities in the North and Western India which include Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Panaji.
Post that, the manufacturer had also arranged a press conference where the scooter was showcased. Going by the looks of the Chetak, the e-scooter follows a classic retro design language with smooth flowing lines and minimal use of multiple body panels. However, under that attractive design is an e-scooter packed with modern equipment and technology. The Chetak features all-LED lighting, Bluetooth-enabled digital instrument console, soft-touch switchgear and keyless ignition to name a few.
The Chetak electric draws its power from an IP-67 certified lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor whose technical specifications are yet to be revealed by Bajaj. The scooter comes with two riding modes, Eco and Sport, the former offering a claimed range of 95km and the latter 75km, on a full charge. The scooter’s battery can be charged via a home-charging unit which Bajaj will be offering at a nominal cost. The company is also working on battery swapping solutions to address range anxiety amongst the soon-to-be owners.
Bajaj will be announcing the price of the scooter in January and is reported to be priced between the 1 lakh to 1.5 lakhs mark, depending on the subsidiary received by the government. Once launched, Bajaj will be offering the Chetak in six attractive colours. Meanwhile, on the competition front, the scooter will lock horns with the Ather 450 and the Okinawa i-Praise.
