After launching the BS-VI Activa 125 in September, Honda has now introduced its second BS-VI-compliant two-wheeler, the SP 125. The price of the motorcycle starts at Rs 72,900 (ex-showroom) which is a premium of around Rs 7,000 over the CB Shine SP, the motorcycle it is based on. Updated powerplant
The 125cc, single-cylinder motor of the SP 125 features Honda’s PGM-FI (programmed fuel-injection) system, an essential element for compliance with the new emission regulations. It churns out 10.6bhp and 10.9Nm which is a moderate increase over the power figures of the Shine SP. Honda says the engine has been tuned to deliver better performance and improved mileage.
New features
Honda has introduced a bunch of new features in the SP 125. Firstly, the conventional headlamp of its predecessor has been replaced with a LED headlamp while the tail lamp also features LED lighting. Furthermore, the motorcycle incorporates an engine kill switch which is an unseen feature in this segment. For enhanced convenience, it also gets high beam, low beam and pass keys integrated in a single switch. Also, going by its theme of ‘Quiet Revolution’, Honda has equipped the bike with ACG starter motor which reduces the engine cranking noises.
Fully-digital instrument cluster
Similar to the engine kill switch, a fully-digital instrument cluster is also a segment-first feature in the SP 125. The display shows a host of information including real-time fuel efficiency, average fuel efficiency, distance-to-empty, service due indicator, eco indicator and gear position indicator, besides the basic details.
Overhauled styling
In order to give it a fresh appeal, the company has also lent a new styling to the SP 125 which looks sleeker than the Shine SP. As opposed to the rounded headlamp design of the latter, the SP 125 gets an angular headlamp design along with an edgier tail lamp. It also sports longer tank extensions along with restyled fuel tank, under-seat cowl and rear panels.
New colours and graphics
The new SP 125 comes in four paint schemes including Striking Green, Imperial Red Metallic, Pearl Siren Blue and Matte Axis Grey Metallic. While these shades are essentially the renamed versions of the Shine SP’s colour scheme, the new set of decals make the bike look sportier.
