With manufacturers like Honda and Hero introducing BS6-compliant versions of their popular vehicle, TVS is also expected to gradually bring in its updated fleet of products soon. That’s because test mules of the Apache RTR 160 and the Apache RTR 160 4V have been spotted at ARAI test facility in Pune. The spied motorcycles are likely to be undergoing tests for BS6 compliance which will come into effect from 1 April 2020.
To comply with BS6, the vehicles are required to be fuel-injected and they need to be equipped with a larger catalytic converter to achieve the stringent norms. Currently, the Apache RTR 160 is available only in a carburetted format wherein the engine registers 15bhp and 13Nm. Meanwhile, the RTR 160 4V is already available with a fuel-injected version and will only require a larger catalytic converter and overall calibration. The Fi variant of the RTR 160 4V is rated to produce 16.3bhp and 14.8Nm. With the BS6 update expect a marginal drop in power but with improved fuel efficiency figures.
Besides the upgrades to the motor, expect TVS to bring in new colour option with graphics of the RTR 160. As for the RTR 160 4V, the manufacturer is expected to offer an LED headlamp to stay competitive along with a Bluetooth-enabled instrument console for a top-spec version, borrowed from the updated Apache RTR 200 4V.
In terms of pricing, expect the BS6 RTR 160 to receive a price hike of around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 while the RTR 160 4V might receive a Rs 4,000 hike over the current fuel-injected BS4 variant.
