Kawasaki has announced that the Ninja ZX-14R will be discontinued globally post 2020.
This move could be due to the introduction of the Ninja H2 SX which is also part of Kawasaki’s hyper-touring line-up. However, in comparison to the ZX-14R, it is lighter and comes with modern features, technology and the potent 998cc, inline-four cylinder, supercharged engine.
The first-generation of the Kawasaki ZX-14R was introduced back in 2006 to take the fight directly to the Suzuki Hayabusa. With its last major upgrade in 2012, the ZX-14R went on to snatch the title from the Busa as the fastest accelerating production motorcycle.
Nevertheless, with 2020 being its last year in the market, we can expect Kawasaki to introduce some new colour schemes for the ZX-14R. It is also likely to be removed from the Indian market where it retails at Rs 19.70 lakhs (ex-showroom). With this said, the highly-anticipated 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa will be left without an iconic ‘Ninja ZX’ rival yet again.
