- Hero Splendor, HF Deluxe BS4, Passion and Pleasure production stopped
- To be phased out before the 1 April deadline
- Other BS4 models to be discontinued as well
With the BS6 emission norms slated to come into effect from 1 April 2020, Hero MotoCorp has announced that it will terminate the production of its popular BS4 models – the Splendor, HF Deluxe, Passion motorcycles and Pleasure scooter. Apparently, the company has formed an interim council that will ensure a smooth transition from BS4 to BS6.
Besides the above-mentioned models that have been discontinued, a couple of other BS4 products are also likely to be phased out of production. While popular products will make way for their BS6 counterparts, there are chances that a couple of them will be completely discontinued. The company has recently launched the Splendor iSmart i3S, its first BS6 compliant motorcycle. With the deadline only a few months away, Hero will have to gear up so that it can update its product portfolio as per the BS6 norms.
According to the law, BS4 compliant vehicles will be registered only until the BS6 norms are set into action. Subsequently, all auto manufacturers will be permitted to sell only BS6 compliant vehicles from 1 April. Similar to the BS3 to BS4 transition period, which brought in a wave of heavy discounts to clear stocks, Hero has opted to stop the production and sell out the existing inventory, instead of cutting down on profits later.
