BMW Motorrad has unveiled their latest creation – the E-Power Roadster. It’s an electric motorcycle and still in prototype form.
Just like most of the other brands out there, BMW is experimenting with the idea of developing clean motorcycles as well. The E-Power Roadster is a step towards that.
Being one of their first prototypes, BMW has used cycle parts from various other vehicles to make this. For example, the battery is from their 2-Series plug-in hybrid car, the motor is from the 7-series, the swingarm is from the BMW R1200RS and the front is from the S1000RR.
The 13kWh battery offers a good performance. The German brand claims that the E-Power churns out a whopping 1,500Nm of torque at the rear wheel after a gear reduction and power transfer via a shaft drive. The bike has a riding range of approximately 177kms, and it can be fast charged through DC charging as well.
BMW hasn’t revealed as to when it plans to get an actual e-bike into the market. But expect it to take at least a few years before it is finally launched.
