2021 Suzuki Hayabusa patents leaked; likely to get 1,440cc engine

- 2021 Suzuki Hayabusa patents published by Japanese patent office

- Shows a new carbon canister and oil sump

- Likely to be unveiled by the end of 2020

Suzuki recently launched the final BS4 model of the current-gen Hayabusa in India. In fact, the motorcycle has already been discontinued in the European markets. While all these reports about the iconic sportsbike sound dreadful, the speculations of an all-new model should cheer up the Busa fans. We have already come across rumours about a higher displacement successor of the Hayabusa. And now, two new patent applications about the motorcycle published by the Japanese patent office further back those presumptions.

The patent application clearly shows an engine architecture similar to the current-gen Hayabusa. However, certain elements illustrate the changes this powerplant will receive, majorly to comply with the new Euro5 emission norms. Firstly, it comprises of a carbon canister which absorbs the exhaust gases, lowering down the harmful emissions. It also shows an oil sump which keeps the oil from spreading inside.

Previous reports have also stated that the displacement of 1,340cc of the outgoing model will go up by 100cc and the new model will pack a 1,440cc powerplant. The hike in the displacement is undoubtedly to keep the performance similar or higher than the existing model as the new emission norms demand more constrained combustion process, resulting in a drop in power figures.

To accommodate this updated motor, it will also get a tweaked chassis, which is evident in the patent images. Furthermore, the design also looks slimmer than the existing frame hinting towards the weight reduction Suzuki might be trying to achieve. Although there’s no information about the overall styling of the upcoming Hayabusa, it will surely be more compact and angular.

Suzuki is expected to unveil the next-generation Hayabusa by the end of 2020 as a 2021 model. Until then, we expect more such patents to be leaked, and hopefully, a few spy images as we inch closer to the unveil.
