Bajaj is scheduled to launch the Chetak electric scooter in India on 14 January. With just a couple of days before it is introduced, we tell you what to expect from Bajaj’s first electric two-wheeler.
Styling
Bajaj has managed to carry forward styling elements of the original Chetak onto the electric scooter. The bodywork, especially the side panels and round headlamp have been inspired by the legendary Chetak. It also gets chrome on the front fairing and grab rails that add to the retro look. Nevertheless, the new Chetak features LED lighting (distinctive sequential blinking for the turn signals) and slightly sharper lines that give the styling a modern twist.
Powertrain
The manufacturer hasn’t revealed full specifications of the Chetak’s motor and will do so at the launch. Although it did reveal that the motor will draw power from an IP67 lithium-ion battery. The Chetak also boasts of a regenerative braking and Intelligent Braking Management System (IBMS) that looks after and controls the charge and discharge of the battery. Furthermore, the Chetak offers two modes- Eco and Sport which offer a range of 95kms and 85kms respectively.
Features
The Chetak gets a circular LCD display that Bluetooth enabled. It allows the rider to connect to the scooter via a dedicated app. The display will also provide call and other notification along with turn-by-turn navigation as well. Along with this information, the instrument console displays battery range, speed, service-due indicator and clock.
Cycle Parts
The Bajaj Chetak rides on 12-inch wheels at both ends wrapped in 90/90 section MRF Zapper-K tyres. The wheels are suspended from a single-sided shock at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is taken care of by a disc brake upfront and a drum brake at the rear.
Pricing
Bajaj is likely to price the Chetak around the Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakhs. In terms of competition, the electric scooter will go against the Ather 450 in the country. As for deliveries, the Chetak is likely to be available a couple of weeks after its launch.
