- Bajaj will soon take over Triumph’s Indian retail network
Ever since the rumour mill of Bajaj and Triumph planning to get into a formal partnership started swirling, it has been a hot topic in the two-wheeler industry. Now, after various reports and speculations about the tie-up emerging on the internet, the duo has finally announced its partnership officially.
The non-equity agreement between the companies will see the development of new engine platforms which will spawn multiple mid-capacity motorcycles. These models will have varying engine displacement falling between 200cc-750cc which could comprise of single and multi-cylinder models. Notably, the prices of these bikes will start under Rs 2 lakhs and will go up depending on the model.
The global partnership will see Bajaj and Triumph designing and engineering these motorcycles together while the former will take care of the manufacturing process which will be carried out at its Chakan facility. Bajaj will also introduce these Triumph bikes in a couple of international markets where Triumph doesn’t have a presence yet, but Bajaj has a strong foothold. Meanwhile, the Chakan-based manufacturer will also take over Triumph’s Indian retail network soon. The British bike maker intends to focus on South East Asian markets and its Indian partner will provide the manufacturing and retail backing for the same. Internationally, these newly-developed mid-capacity motorcycles will join Triumph’s existing line-up.
The collaboration will benefit both the brands with Bajaj availing Triumph’s design and engineering prowess while Triumph making use of Bajaj’s manufacturing capabilities and strong retail network. More details about the partnership will follow soon. Stay tuned to BikeWale.
