- Smaller Bajaj Dominar was spied testing recently
- Company intends to bring in a more affordable model
- Will get lower-spec components and an engine borrowed from the KTM 250 Duke
It was just recently that a new model of the Bajaj Dominar was spied testing, which we believe was a smaller 250cc iteration of the motorcycle. Now, a new online report has affirmed the existence of such a model while stating it will be launched as soon as next month.
In a recent interview, Bajaj’s top honcho put emphasis on their unexpected move of launching the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 in India, instead of bringing in the 401 derivatives. The company spokesperson said that the brand will do something similar with the Dominar, in order to make it more accessible to the customers.
As we had observed in the spy image, the smaller Dominar had more economized parts as compared to the 400 model. It had a conventional box-type swingarm, skinnier tyres and different wheels. The test mule also seemed to have a smaller disc brake. All these changes will help Bajaj keep down the overall cost of the motorcycle.
As for the engine, similar to the Dominar 400 which shares its powerplant with the KTM 390 Duke, the smaller Dominar will borrow its motor from the 250 Duke. However, it will retain the overall styling of the Dominar 400 along with certain components such as the upside down front forks and chassis. It might miss out on a few premium features such as the full-LED headlamp.
Currently, there’s a substantial price difference of around Rs 50,000 between Bajaj’s flagship model, the Dominar 400, and the Pulsar RS 200. The Dominar 250 would perfectly sit in between. It is likely to be priced between Rs 1.50-1.80 lakhs, a segment comprising of Royal Enfield and Jawa models which have been well received by the masses.
