Royal Enfield likely to launch three all-new motorcycles this year

- Will use a new engine construction

- Likely to include a 250cc motorcycle

- Could be launched this year

The Royal Enfield UC engine is long in the tooth, powering the manufacturer’s motorcycles for almost a decade now. However, the manufacturer was spotted testing three different motorcycles recently that would replace the current UCE engine. These appear to use the ‘J’ architecture for the engine that Royal Enfield has developed in recent times.

First off is the Classic which gets subtle styling changes like a cylindrical tail lamp, new seats, under-seat panel and redesigned grab rail. Furthermore, it also sports a new instrument cluster which gets a small-digital unit. The bike also features new rotary-style switchgear.

Another motorcycle supposedly called the ‘Meteor’ has also been doing the rounds. We believe that it might be a replacement for the Thunderbird X model. It features an updated instrument cluster, slight revisions to the styling (a circular tail lamp and LED DRL for the headlamp) along with the same switchgear as the Classic. Both, the Classic and Meteor are expected to come powered by a 350cc engine as notified by the ‘J1-349’ branding on the motor.

The most interesting model, however, is the modern-classic style motorcycle which was also recently spied testing. Looking at the rear-set footpegs and flat handlebar, it is safe to say that the motorcycle will offer a slightly aggressive riding position. This motorcycle also looks smaller in height suggesting that it would be more accessible to Royal Enfield’s new target audience- first time Royal Enfield buyers and women riders.

And to cater to the said audience, it is likely to use a 250cc engine. There is no confirmation about its name, although we think it could use one of the recently trademarked names; Hunter or Roadster.  These motorcycles looked production-ready and we expect Royal Enfield to begin introducing the models in the market by mid-2020.
