The Imperiale 400 will be the first BS6-compliant motorcycle from Benelli in India, as we had reported last month. Now, thanks to our sources, we have come to know that the bike maker will price the BS6 Imperiale 400 at Rs 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom). That’s a premium of around Rs 40,000 over the BS4 model, which is substantial considering the motorcycle already gets a fuel-injected engine.
The existing BS4 Imperiale is powered by a 374cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 20.7bhp and 29Nm. Since it is already fuel-injected, minor alterations will be executed such as inclusion of a larger catalytic converter and O2 sensor. These changes might result in a marginal variation in its power figures owing to more constrained emissions. Meanwhile, transmission duties will continued to be handled by a five-speed gearbox.
While the retro-inspired design of the Imperiale will be retained, it is likely to get a new set of decals to lend it a fresh appeal. Expect the bike to remain unchanged in all other aspects. It comes equipped with a conventional lighting set up with hazard switch while the instrumentation comprises of a semi-analogue console. The motorcycle rides on 19-inch wheels with telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.
Benelli will certainly launch the BS6 Imperiale 400 as soon as the ongoing lockdown lifts. At the aforementioned pricing, the motorcycle will be considerably more expensive than its main rival, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 which retails from Rs 1.57 lakh to Rs 1.81 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant.
