- Kawasaki to launch the 2020 Ninja 650 BS6 soon
- To be priced between Rs 6.45-6.75 lakh (ex-showroom)
- COVID-19 pandemic has delayed its launch
Kawasaki is gearing up to launch the 2020 Ninja 650 BS6 in India soon, as revealed by our dealer sources. The motorcycle was scheduled to be launched during the March-April period but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has delayed it further. In January this year, Kawasaki had announced that the 2020 Ninja 650 will be priced between Rs 6.45-6.75 lakh (ex-showroom) which will be a substantial premium over the BS4 model, pegged at Rs 5.89 lakh.
The new Ninja 650 gets several updates over the previous edition. Starting with the styling, it looks more aggressive now with a sharper-looking front end, angular fairing, sculpted fuel tank and a stubby tail section. For illumination, it gets twin LED headlights accompanied by position lamps while the tail lamp is also LED. Kawasaki has also equipped the bike with a new 4.3-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster which gets Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing.
Powering the motorcycle is the same 649cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor but with tweaked intake and exhaust system for BS6 compliance. It churns out 66.4bhp at 8,000rpm and 64Nm at 6,700rpm with an improved torque delivery in the mid-range. The transmission setup comprises of a six-speed gearbox. Underpinned by a trellis frame, it comes equipped with telescopic forks and a monoshock. Stopping power comes from dual discs up front and single disc at the rear
Kawasaki will offer the 2020 Ninja 650 in two colour options including Lime Green Ebony and Pearl Flat Stardust White. Owing to the dearth of middle-weight, touring-oriented faired motorcycles in India, the Ninja 650 has no direct competition. Honda has the CBR650R but it is way more expensive at Rs 7.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
