- 2020 Kawasaki Z650, Ninja 1000 BS6 could be launched next week
- Select dealers have started accepting bookings for the bike
- Deliveries to commence post the lockdown
Kawasaki recently launched its first BS6-compliant motorcycle, the 2020 Ninja 650, in India. We might see more new products from the Japanese bike maker sooner rather than later. According to our dealer sources, the 2020 Z650 and Ninja 1000 BS6 are scheduled to be launched in India as early as next week. Interestingly, bookings for these bikes have also begun at select dealerships across the country.
The 2020 Z650 continues with the same aggressive streetfighter styling but with subtle changes which make it look edgier. It also gets full-LED headlamp and tail lamp along with a new Bluetooth-enabled 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster. The 649cc, parallel-twin engine has also been revised for cleaner emissions and stronger mid-range torque. It produces 67.2bhp and 65.7Nm. Completing the changes are the new Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres.
The 2020 Ninja 1000 also gets minimal styling changes with a sharper fully-faired design. It also gets full-LED lighting while the new 4.3-inch TFT console is the same unit as on the 2020 Z650. Powering the motorcycle is the same 1,043cc, liquid-cooled, in-line four cylinder engine. However, altered throttle valves have aided in achieving smoother power delivery and addition of cruise control. Other electronic gizmos include cornering ABS and bi-directional quick shifter. As opposed to the previous quad exhaust setup, it gets a single canister now which has helped in reducing the kerb weight of the bike.
Kawasaki had officially announced the tentative price of the 2020 Z650 in January, which was said to be in the ballpark of Rs 6.25-6.50 lakh. However, looking at the cost of the Ninja 650, which is lesser than the previously announced price bracket, we expect Kawasaki to follow the same pattern for the Z650. Expect the naked street bike to be pegged around Rs 6 lakh. As for the litre-class sports tourer, the Ninja 1000 BS4 currently costs Rs 10.29 lakh and its 2020 BS6 model is likely to demand a justifiable premium over the same.
