- Benelli Imperiale 400 BS6 launched in India
- Priced at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Demands a premium of Rs 20,000 over the BS4 version
Benelli has launched its first BS6-compliant offering, the Imperiale 400 BS6, in India. The motorcycle has been priced at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom) which is a hefty premium of Rs 20,000 over its BS4 counterpart. Online bookings for the bike have commenced at Rs 6,000 (fully refundable) and it is being offered with a three-year unlimited kilometer warranty as standard.
The only change the Imperiale 400 has received is in its engine which emits cleaner gases now owing to the introduction of a larger catalytic converter and O2 sensor. Interestingly, this hasn’t changed its power figures. The 374cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected motor continues to produce 20.7bhp and 29Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. Furthermore, at 205 kg, the kerb weight of the bike is also the same as before.
The modern-classic design of Imperiale 400 has been retained as it was. It gets a circular headlamp, peanut-shaped fuel tank, split seat, straight handlebar and a 19-18-inch spoke wheel combination. Underpinned by a double cradle frame, the motorcycle is sprung by telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers. Braking is handled by disc brakes at both ends assisted by dual-channel ABS.
At the aforementioned price, the Benelli Imperiale 400 is around Rs 16,000 more expensive than the top-end variant of its closest rival, the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The prices of the latter start at Rs 1.60 lakh and go up to Rs 1.84 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
