Aprilia has announced that the SR 150 is headed for the Indian market. This premium scooter made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo, which also served as a platform for the company to showcase the rest of its superbike line-up.
What’s new?
While the Aprilia SR series is available with a slew of engine options, stretching from 50cc to 300cc, it’s the 150cc model which will end up on our shores. Terming it as a ‘sport-scooterbike’, Aprilia is marketing the SR 150 as a scooter meant for young riders who wish to experience superbike-like sensation on a scooter. Powering the SR 150 is a 150cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine, which is mated to an automatic transmission. The sharp cut body lines, sporty riding position, beaky front end and the blacked-out 14-inch alloy wheels accentuate its sporty character.
India relevance?
The Aprilia SR 150 will be the first scooter of its kind in the Indian market. The only other 150cc scooters in India are offered by Aprilia’s sister brand, Vespa. However the Vespa scooters attract a different set of audience than the SR 150.
Launch plans?
The Aprilia SR 150 will be launched in India in August 2016. The Aprilia SR 150 will be locally manufactured at Piaggio’s facility in Maharashtra, which means that it might be priced around Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh. While this doesn’t exactly make it an affordable product, it will certainly make it the cheapest Aprilia on sale in the country.
