It’s a big day for Honda 2Wheelers India as the two-wheeler manufacturer has unveiled its first BS-VI compliant two-wheeler. The first vehicle from the company’s portfolio to receive the BS-VI update ahead of the April 2020 deadline is the Activa 125 model.

In order to make the scooter BS-VI compliant, Honda has upgraded the Activa 125's powertrain with components like fuel-canister, closed-loop catalytic converter, electronic fuel injection and Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The engine powering the scooter continues to be the 124cc air-cooled, single-cylinder motor with PGM-FI HET (Honda Eco Technology) and is further boosted by Honda Enhanced Smart Power (eSP) system. The new tech optimises  the energy output of the engine while maximising efficient combustion of the air-fuel misture, as per the company. The motor is likely to produce the same power output of 8.5bhp of max power and 10.54Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a varomatic clutch.

Besides the BS-VI upgrade, Honda has added several new features to the Activa 125 BS-VI to make it more appealing to buyers. It gets a new semi-digital instrument console that displays information like real-time fuel efficiency, range and mileage apart from the standard bits like odometer, clock, ECO indicator and service due indicator. It also gets an malfunction lamp to alert the rider in case of any serious malfunction in the vehicle. Apart from that, Honda has also equipped the Activa 125 BS-VI is a side stand indicator which prevent the engine from cranking if the stand is out. Other bits include pass switch, front glove box and an external fuel lid. On the design front, Honda has given the scooter subtle design updates including restyled signature LED position lamps and embossed 3D Activa 125 logo on panels.

The company has also introduced a new feature called Honda ACG Starter which cranks the motor with the same AC generator that generate electricity and charges the battery. This upgrade eliminates the need of an starter motor, thus cancelling any gear meshing noises.

For cycle parts, the scooter is suspended by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is done a disc brake up front and a drum at the rear. The scooter continues to ride on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels shod with 90/90-R12 and 90/100-R10 tyres, respectively.

On the occasion of the introduction of the BS-VI compliant Activa 125, the company has also introduced a 6 year warranty package for the first time, it includes 3 years standard warranty and 3 years optional extended warranty for the Actva 125.

Honda will be offering the BS-VI Activa 125 with the choice of six colour shades. The company will be officially launching the new Activa 125 BS-VI towards the end of the second quarter of 2019-20. In its segment, the scooter will compete against the likes of Maestro Edge 125 and the TVS NTorq 125 in the country.
