Slovenian exhaust specialist Akrapovic has unveiled a new exhaust system for the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1. Inspired by the Japanese manufacturer’s YZR-M1 MotoGP prototypes, the system not only offers a throatier sound track, but increases the superbike’s performance too.
The new exhaust system consists of a slip-on muffler which features a unique GP design. The slip-on is a plug-and-play muffler and doesn’t require any ECU remaps. The exhaust’s end can is made of titanium, which significantly reduces the bike’s overall weight. It also gets a carbon fibre heat shield to improve the slip-on’s aesthetics.
Yamaha claims that the exhaust boosts the power and torque of the R1, throughout its entire rev range. Besides the slip-on, Akrapovic also offers a lightweight titanium link pipe as an optional extra. The link pipe fits on the stock headers, making it an all-out full exhaust system, adding even more power and torque to the motorcycle.
As of now, BMW is the only two-wheeler manufacturer in India, which officially sells Akrapovic exhaust systems for its motorcycle in India. The 2015 R1 is expected to be launched in India in the first half of this year, though it is very unlikely that Yamaha will officially promote the Akrapovic systems, here.
