- BMW R 1300 GS spied
- Likely to get a new frame, electronics and design
- Could be launched in 2022
The GS brand is BMW Motorrad’s most significant offering, setting benchmarks in the adventure-touring segment for a good number of years now. However, BMW seems to be working on making something that is already so good, even better, and has been spotted testing what looks like the R 1300 GS.
While the test mule is heavily camouflaged with inconspicuous black cladding, it did reveal a few details. The most noticeable of those is the front end that sports a much larger windscreen and a different headlamp setup. BMW is gradually moving away from the signature asymmetrical headlamp setup for its motorcycles for a more conventional-looking unit and by the looks of it, the upcoming R 1300 GS may be next.
Moreover, even the frame, although seemingly unfinished, is different from the R 1250 GS. It also gets a revised swingarm and a shorter exhaust can, possibly to comply with the Euro 5 norms and to go with the bigger engine. Speaking of which, BMW Motorrad is unlikely to drastically change the power and torque output and instead work on optimizing the current performance. Besides this, we can expect the upcoming BMW R 1300 GS to feature a larger TFT display, radar-based cruise control, cornering lights, and blind-spot detection system.
Now, since the test mule looks like an early prototype we can expect BMW to launch the final version by 2022. And it will definitely make its way to India after its global unveiling to compete against the Honda Africa Twin CRF1100L, Kawasaki Versys 1000, and the Suzuki V-Strom 1050 XT that is likely to be launched in India this year.
