Triumph Motorcycles India will update its portfolio with the launch of the all-new Tiger 1200 very soon. While the company is yet to announce the launch date, we expect it to arrive in the coming weeks. Do note that the pre-bookings for the company’s flagship had begun in December 2021. While we await the launch details, here we tell you what to expect from the India-bound 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200.
Styling
The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 packs an all-new design that looks sleeker than its predecessor. The front fascia, for example, gets a sleek LED headlight design with an integrated LED DRL. The touring focused design brings an adjustable windscreen and a semi-fairing. Other styling elements include a beak-style design for the front, split-style seats, and a tall-set exhaust. Triumph Motorcycles has adapted weight-saving measures such as a lighter chassis, a single-sided swingarm, and an aluminium fuel tank.
Features
The feature list on the international-spec model includes full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT-display. Other features on the new Tiger 1200 range include adaptive cornering lights, keyless system, heated grips and heated seats, tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold.
The flagship adventure tourer from the British marquee also gets a radar-based blind-spot detection function and a lane assist feature. Do note that the radar-based system is available for GT Explorer and Rally Explorer variants only. The electronics ride aids which work with an Inertia Measurement Unit (IMU), include traction control system, ABS, and riding modes. Do note that the features list would alter based on the variant selected.
Variants
The new Triumph Tiger 1200 will be sold in two versions – Rally and GT. We have seen similar nomenclature on the 900 series. The GT version is a road-biased touring motorcycle while the Rally variant is designed for off-road use.
Thus, the GT version gets 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels that are shod in Metzeler Tourance tyres. The GT variant also runs with relatively shorter suspension travel than the Rally variant. In comparison, the off-road biased Tiger 1200 Rally series will feature a longer travel suspension and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels that feature a cross-spoke design. These cross-spoke wheels are shod in tubeless tyres. Both variants use Showa-sourced suspension setup and Brembo-sourced brakes. The anchoring tasks are handled by dual 320mm discs with Brembo Stylema callipers at the front and a 282mm single rotor with Brembo calliper at the rear.
Internationally, the GT range is available in three variants (GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer) while the Rally series includes two options (Rally Pro and Rally Explorer). The details about the India-bound variants are not available yet. The Explorer variants of both models get a 30-litre fuel tank while other versions use a 20-litre unit.
Engine
The mechanical specifications on both variants include a 1,160cc, inline-three cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the motor is tuned to produce 147bhp of power at 9,000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The Tiger 1200 uses a shaft drive system.
Expected ex-showroom India tag
The new Triumph Tiger 1200 will rival the Ducati Multistrada V4 and the BMW R 1250 GS in the Indian market. We expect the prices to be at par with its rivals and this British adventure tourer should be available from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.
