The 125cc everyday scooter segment has been growing rapidly and TVS had been absent in this class, until now. Well, it’s better to be late than never. The company has now introduced the new Jupiter 125 which has quite a few tricks up its sleeves. And we tell you what all it is about in five different points.
Fresh design
The Jupiter 125 is an all-new product, and so is its design. It looks substantially bigger than the smaller Jupiter 110 with larger and free-flowing body panels. It will also be available in a host of dynamic colour options. And if you chose the top-spec disc brake version that’s shown in pictures, you get glistening chrome accents in certain areas.
Practical features
TVS has bestowed it with multiple segment-first features for making its ownership experience seamless. To start with, the fuel filler cap is at the front, so you won’t have to turn around every time you stop at a fuel station. There’s a decently sized open glove box as well which is accompanied by a USB charger as standard. Under the seat, you have a surprisingly large storage area with a humungous capacity of 32-litres! Moreover, there’s an under-seat light, a side stand engine inhibitor, and a multi-function switch.
Peppy engine
Since it will be ridden in the urban jungle for the most part, TVS has tuned its 125cc engine for good low and mid-range performance. This was quite evident during our first ride review. This all-new engine gets a two-valve head and doesn’t share anything with the Ntorq 125, which has three valves. The Jupiter 125 is also claimed to deliver an impressive mileage, much higher than the Ntorq.
Impressiveagility
TVS has placed the fuel tank of the Jupiter 125 under the floorboard which has translated in a low centre of gravity and better weight balance than most other scooters. This turns out to be highly beneficial as it feels incredibly agile, easy to change directions, and obedient to your inputs. It doesn’t even get nervous while going through mid-corner bumps, thanks to the adequately damped suspension setup. In what comes across as a first-in-class functionality, the rear preload can be adjusted with your thumb, without the need of a tool.
Competitive pricing
Despite being such a well-equipped package, the TVS Jupiter 125 is priced very competitively. The base variant of the scooter is pegged at Rs 73,400 while the top-end trim goes up to Rs 81,300 (both prices are ex-showroom). This is nearly identical to the Honda Activa 125 and the Suzuki Access 125.
