- Aprilia RS660 and Tuono 660 to be launched by mid-2021
- Will arrive as CBU and be available in limited numbers
- Could be priced around Rs 9-10 lakh
Piaggio has announced that the Aprilia RS660 and Tuono 660 will be launched in India by mid-2021.The motorcycles will be brought into the country as CBUs (Completely Built Units) and are expected to be available in limited numbers. As for pricing, we expect the 660s to be an expensive proposition with a pricing of around Rs 9-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Now the Aprilia RS660 is a fully-faired motorcycle that recently went on sale internationally. It sports an aggressively styled fairing which houses twin full-LED headlamps integrated with turn signals while the petite tail section is reminiscent of its bigger sibling- the RSV4. On the other hand, the Tuono 660 dresses down with a half fairing and a front end that looks like the RS660. Apart from this difference in styling, the Tuono 660 and RS660 are essentially the same.
Powering both motorcycles is a 659cc, liquid-cooled unit with 270-degree firing order for the signature grunt. This motor is capable of churning out 100bhp of power at 10,500rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. And to put a leash on those numbers Aprilia has equipped the RS660 and Tuono 660 with three-level cornering ABS, adjustable wheelie control, traction control and engine brake control which are monitored by a six-axis IMU. It also gets an up/down quick shifter, cruise control and five riding modes.
As for competition, the Aprilia Tuono 660 will compete against the Triumph Trident 660 which is likely to debut by March 2021. Whereas the RS660 will go head on against the Kawasaki Ninja 650, Triumph Street Triple R and the upcoming Honda CB650R.
