Aprilia had unveiled the RS660 at the 2018 EICMA show in Milan where it grabbed a lot of attention. This was followed by several spy shots and teasers of the bike surfacing over months, which had only skyrocketed the anticipation for the motorcycle. Now, the Italian firm has finally revealed the stunning RS660 for the international markets. Since it is likely to enter the Indian soil as well, we shed some light on its details.
Design
In terms of styling, the Aprilia RS660 draws inspiration from the larger RSV4 sportsbike. However, it still has its own character with a sleek dual-pod LED headlamp setup, edgy fairing with sharp creases, muscular fuel tank and petite tail section. Moreover, this is complemented by the choice of three swanky colour options including Lava Red, Black Apex and Acid Gold.
Features
Typical of an Aprilia, the RS660 comes loaded with modern gadgetry. Besides basic features like full-LED lighting and a TFT console, it incorporates a host of rider aids such as three-level cornering ABS, adjustable wheelie control, traction control and engine brake control which are facilitated by a six-axis IMU. It also gets an up/down quick shifter, cruise control and as many as five riding modes – Commute, Dynamic, Individual, Challenge and Time Attack.
Engine
The engine of the RS660 is a smaller displacement, parallel-twin derivative of its larger sibling, the RSV4’s motor. This 659cc, liquid-cooled unit with 270-degree firing order is Euro5-compliant and is capable of pumping out 100bhp of power at 10,500rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm.
Hardware
Underpinned by a dual beam frame, the motorcycle is suspended by 41mm Kayaba upside down forks at the front with preload and rebound adjustability along with a monoshock at the back with same adjustability options. Carrying out the stopping duties are dual 320mm discs with four-piston Brembo radial calipers up front and a 220mm disc with dual-piston Brembo caliper at the rear.
Pricing
The price of the Aprilia RS660 stands at £10,149 (approximately Rs 9.7 lakh) for the international markets. It might also be launched in the Indian market in the near future. And when it does, it will compete against the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.
