- First road-legal production superbike to feature winglets.
- 125 units for North America.
- To be unveiled at the GP of Americas this weekend.
Aprilia will unveil a limited edition motorcycle called the RSV4 RF LE on 22 April at the GP of Americas in Austin, Texas. The spy image was taken at a global Aprilia dealer meeting.
The RSV4 RF LE is based on the standard RSV4 RF and is the first road-legal production superbike to be fitted with winglets. It draws inspiration from the RSV4 R FW-GP Factory Works bike that could be equipped with the winglets as option. However, that bike was built only for the track with MotoGP-like technology. While the design of the aerodynamic devices is likely to be the same, the RSV4 RF LE will have them as standard fitment.
The new World Superbike Championship regulations allow manufacturers to use winglets on their WSBK motorcycle as long as they feature on the homologation special. With the introduction of the RSV4 RF LE, Aprilia can now use the technology on their WSBK version.
While Aprilia is the first manufacturer to bring out this technology on their road bike, other manufacturers are likely to follow suit too. For now, 100 units will be sold in the USA and 25 units have been allotted for Canada. As for India, the RSV4 RF LE could arrive in the country in very limited numbers.
