- The scooters have been spotted with ABS badge
- Prices will be slightly increased due to ABS
- They will be launched before the ABS norm kicks in from 1 April 2019
Piaggio-owned Aprilia and Vespa are all set to update their 150cc scooters with ABS. This is evident from the recent spy shots that have surfaced online. Scooters from both the brands have been spied with ABS ring on the front disc along with ‘ABS’ badge on the front mudguard. These will be launched in the first quarter of 2019 owing to the new norm which mandates ABS on two-wheelers above 125cc, starting 1 April 2019. The 150cc Aprilia and Vespa scooters will get single-channel ABS and will see a marginal hike in their prices.
Aprilia has one scooter, the SR150, with a 150cc engine. It is available in a standard trim along with a Race version which gets racy graphics and quicker acceleration. Powering the scooter is a 154.8cc engine that churns out 10.25bhp and 11.4Nm of torque. It rides on large 14-inch front and rear wheels shod with Vee Rubber tyres. However, as per the spy shot, it will be updated with MRF tyres.
On the other hand, Vespa has the VXL 150, SXL 150 and the Elegante 150, all of which boast of modern-classic Italian design. These scooters are propelled by a 150cc motor that produces 11.4bhp and 11.5Nm of torque. They get 11-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels while braking is handled by front disc and rear drum brake. For suspension, the scooters get single sided arm on the front and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear.
The Aprilia SR150 standard and Race are priced at Rs 71,148 and Rs 74,328, respectively. Meanwhile, the Vespa VXL 150 comes for Rs 92,257, SXL 150 for Rs 96,181 and Elegante 150 retails for Rs 1.01 lakhs. (all prices are ex-showroom)
