Piaggio has revealed that the deliveries of the Aprilia SR 150 will commence in the second week of September. Though the scooter has already been launched, Piaggio has dispatched only two demo vehicles to Vespa showrooms across the country for now, and the dispatch of customer vehicles is expected to take longer than what was previously reported.
A few weeks ago, Piaggio commenced the production of the first batch of the Aprilia SR 150 at their production facility in Baramati, Maharashtra. Though the SR 150 was reported to reach showrooms immediately after its launch, it now seems like the customer deliveries will actually commence in mid-September. The Aprilia SR 150 is being built at the same assembly line as the Vespa scooters with 90 per cent localisation. It is powered by a 154cc single-cylinder engine borrowed from the Vespa, which delivers 11.4bhp and 11.5Nm of torque. The air-cooled three-valve engine relies on a carburettor for its fuelling, and is mated to a CVT transmission.
The Aprilia SR 150 will be sold through the existing network of Vespa dealerships, which have already started accepting bookings for the scooter. Because of great introdcutory pricing of Rs 79,783 (on-road, Mumbai), the Aprilia SR 150 goes up against other smaller scooters like the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125 and the Vespa LX 125.
