Piaggio has announced that the Aprilia SR 150 will reach showrooms across the country on August 23. This new genre-shattering motoscooter will be sold through Piaggio’s network of 100 odd Vespa dealerships as well as the Motoplex stores, and can be booked for a token of Rs 2,000.
Earlier this week, Piaggio commenced the production of the first batch of the Aprilia SR 150 at their production facility in Baramati, Maharashtra. The Aprilia SR 150 is being built at the same assembly line as the Vespa scooters, helping the company share production costs. A scooter made exclusively for India, the SR 150 currently features 90 per cent localisation, which has enabled the company to offer it at an attractive introductory price of Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom, Pune). Piaggio even has plans to export the Aprilia SR 150 to other markets in the Indian subcontinent and eventually, to Europe. While the SR 150 is already a BSIV compliant scooter, Aprilia eventually plans to introduce ABS-equipped models in the near future, considering that it is soon going to be a mandatory requirement for two-wheelers.
As a part of its expansion plans, Piaggio is planning to increase the number of dealerships to 150 by next year. It is also planning to set up more Motoplex stores in major cities. The Motoplex store is a unique type of showroom which houses the Italian automotive group's three two-wheeler brands - Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa under one roof.
