Aprilia recently introduced its distinctive-looking adventure scooter, the SR GT 200 in Japan. Interestingly, that’s the same country the Yamaha Aerox 155 originated from and has been creating a lot of buzz in India. Both scooters exude a persona that’s quite unconventional than most scooters available in India. Although the SR GT 200 is unlikely to arrive at our shores anytime soon, we compare it with the Aerox 155 for our curious readers.
Styling
The SR GT is essentially a maxi-scooter but looks much brawnier than its stablemate, the SXR 160. While the front apron and side panels already look muscular, the centre spine further adds visual mass to the scooter. As for the Aerox, it’s more inclined towards looking fast even while standing still with a more squatting stance along with sharp and racy design lines. Having said that, both the contenders have the visual appeal to attract loads of attention on the road.
Features
On the feature front, both of them are nearly at par with the Yamaha having a few additional bits. The Aerox 155 gets a 24.5-litre under-seat storage space, full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled LCD, ABS, and a USB charging port. While all this is available in the SR GT as well, the Aerox has an upper hand with a side-stand engine cut-off mechanism and a silent starter. Also, unlike Aerox’s standard Bluetooth connectivity, the Aprilia gets it as an option.
Engine
The Aerox is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled engine with variable valve actuation that churns out 14.79bhp and 13.9Nm. The SR GT has a clear advantage of a larger displacement as it produces 17.4bhp and 16.5Nm from its 174cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor.
Cycle parts
The Aprilia SR GT rides on a 14-13-inch alloy wheel combination that’s suspended by telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. It also gets block-pattern tyres that testify its adventure intentions. The stopping power comes from a 260mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc.
While the suspension setup of the Aerox is the same as the Aprilia, it gets large 14-inch wheels at both ends. The tyres are road-focused and the diameter of discs is smaller at 230mm and 130mm at the front and rear, respectively. Where the Aerox has an upper hand is in the weight department as it tips the scales at just 126kg which makes it 12kg lighter than the Aprilia.
Pricing
Aprilia has priced the SR GT 200 at JPY 5,50,000 (roughly Rs 3.59 lakh) for the standard variant. Meanwhile, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is available at Rs 1.32 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
