The recently-launched Aprilia Storm 125 faces competition from the TVS Ntorq 125 in the Indian market. We find out how the scooters match-up against each other in this on-paper comparison.
Styling and Features
The Storm 125 uses the same bodywork as the SR125. So there is the quirky looking front end with its headlamp in the front apron and the turn signals on the handlebar. At the rear end, the Storm’s side panels get smooth lines which merge well into the tail lamp.
The Ntorq 125, on the other hand, is an aggressively designed scooter that amplifies its sporty appeal. It gets sharp lines on the front apron and the side panels too. And similar to the Storm 125, it gets a fairing-mounted headlamp and steering-mounted turn indicators. However, unlike the Aprilia, the TVS gets an LED DRL and LED illuminated tail lamp too.
It also sports a fully-digital instrument cluster that displays a wide array of information like 0-60kmph acceleration timer, a lap timer, top-speed recorder and engine temperature. The unit is also Bluetooth-enabled and can be used for turn-by-turn navigation and call notifications.
In comparison, the Aprilia Storm 125 features an analogue instrument cluster which looks plain Jane. The unit displays speed and fuel level along with an odometer.
Performance
Both scooters are powered by engines with similar 124cc displacement although with differing power outputs. The Aprilia’s unit produces 9.5bhp at 7,250rpm and 9.9Nm at 6,250rpm. Meanwhile, the Ntorq 125’s motor churns out 9.1bhp at 7,500rpm and 10.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. The engine on the Storm 125 and Ntorq 125 come mated to CVT gearboxes.
Cycle Parts
The Aprilia Storm 125 and TVS Ntorq 125 use telescopic front forks and a coil spring at the rear. However, the braking department is where they differ. While the Storm 125 is only offered in a drum brake variant, the Ntorq 125 is available in both drum and disc brake variants. Both scooters are offered with CBS as standard.
The Ntorq rides on 12-inch wheels shod with 100/80 front and 110/80 rear tyres. On the other hand, the Aprilia features 12-inch wheels wrapped in wider 120/80 front and 130/80 rear knobby-tyres.
Pricing
The Aprilia Storm 125 is priced at Rs 65,000. Meanwhile, the Ntorq 125 costs Rs 58, 252 for the drum variant and Rs 59,900 for the disc brake version. Even though it retails nearly Rs 5000 lesser than the Aprilia, the Ntorq offers better features like the LED lighting and a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.
