- Aprilia SXR 125 launched in India
- Priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Competes against the Suzuki Burgman Street 125
Piaggio has launched its new 125cc maxi-scooter, the SXR 125, in India. Although the company hasn’t made an official announcement yet, it has revealed the price of the scooter on its website. As we had revealed in our report earlier this month, the Aprilia SXR 125 is priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). It can be booked at a refundable amount of Rs 5,000 and there are four colour options to choose from – white, blue, red and black.
The SXR 125 is the smaller version of the SXR 160 that was launched in India in December last year. Both scooters sport the same styling, features and a majority of cycle parts. However, the engine is borrowed from the sportier SR 125. This is a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, three-valve unit capable of producing 9.4bhp at 7,600rpm and 9.2Nm at 6,250rpm. Meanwhile, the chassis and suspension components are also similar to the SR, but they are revised to suit the SXR’s maxi character. As opposed to the former’s 14-inch wheels, the SXR rides on smaller 12-inch alloy wheels.
Piaggio has loaded the Aprilia SXR 125 with a host of features. It gets a full-LED lighting setup, something that’s uncommon amongst scooters in India. Then there’s a large LCD dash that shows a decent amount of information. Other features include a spacious under seat storage space, a lockable front storage compartment, a 7-litre fuel tank and a USB charging port. As for the design, the SXR 125 takes inspiration from Aprilia’s big bikes like the new RS660. The whole body work is dominated by sharp and angular design lines with a large front apron, a tall windscreen and a sleek rear section.
Talking about its competition, considering the displacement and body style of the Aprilia SXR 125, it goes up against the Suzuki Burgman Street 125. However, the latter is much more affordable at Rs 84,371 (standard) and Rs 87,871 (Bluetooth enabled) (both prices are ex-showroom, Pune).
