- Aprilia SXR 160 launched in India
- Priced at Rs 1.26 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune)
- Features maxi styling like the Suzuki Burgman Street 125
Piaggio has finally launched its new maxi-scooter, the Aprilia SXR 160, in India. It has been priced at Rs 1,25,997 (ex-showroom, Pune) while bookings are open for Rs 5,000.
Piaggio had unveiled the Aprilia SXR 160 in February at the 2020 Auto Expo while we got to ride it just a few days back. You can read our first ride review of the SXR here and watch the video review attached above. The SXR 160 witnessed much hype around it since its unveiling at the Expo. And the main reason for that is its maxi-styling which is still quite uncommon in India. It also has sporty touches to its design with an edgy headlamp and tail lamp inspired by the RS 660 supersport. Typical of a maxi ride, it sports a bold front apron, long under seat panel, a tall windscreen and a raised plastic-draped handlebar.
The SXR comes equipped with much more features than the SR range of scooters. There’s a fully-digital LCD console, full-LED lighting all around, a closed glove box and a USB charging port. Meanwhile, the hardware package of the SXR, including the engine, has been borrowed from SR 160 in a revised form. It is powered by a 160cc, three-valve engine which makes 10.7bhp and 11.6Nm. It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels suspended by telescopic forks and a monoshock. Braking is handled by a disc-drum setup with single-channel ABS. Moreover, it gets a 7 litre fuel tank.
The Aprilia SXR 160 is available in four colour options – red, blue, white and black. Considering its body style, the SXR faces competition only from the Suzuki Burgman Street 125.
