- Piaggio begins pre-bookings of the Aprilia SXR 160
- Can be booked at a token amount of Rs 5,000
- Likely to be priced at Rs 1.27 lakh
Piaggio has announced that it has commenced accepting pre-bookings for its upcoming maxi-scooter, the Aprilia SXR 160, in India. Interested buyers can book it by paying a token amount of Rs 5,000 through the company’s official website or by visiting the Piaggio dealership.
The Aprilia SXR 160 will be launched in India in a few days. However, our sources have already revealed that it will be priced at Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom), which will make it around Rs 20,000 more expensive than its sporty sibling, the SR 160. The production for the scooter is underway at Piaggio’s Baramati plant.
The Aprilia SXR 160 has been designed and developed in Italy, mainly for the Indian market. It was first revealed in February at the Auto Expo 2020 where it had garnered a lot of attention, essentially due to its styling. It’s a seamless blend of maxi and sporty design with taut lines across its body work and certain elements inspired by the Aprilia RS 660 supersport. It will also come equipped with practical features such as full-LED lighting, digital console and ample storage space.
Underneath the distinctive design, the SXR 160 packs a hardware package borrowed from the SR 160, but in a revised form. It will run on a 160cc, three-valve, fuel-injected engine with power figures likely to be nearly the same as the SR which churns out 10.84bhp and 11.6Nm.
The Aprilia SXR 160 will be available in four colours including gloss red, matte blue, gloss white and matte black. In terms of body styling, it will compete against the only other maxi-scooter sold in India, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125.
