- Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter production to begin soon
- India launch to take place soon
- Shares its underpinning with the Aprilia SR 160
Ever since Aprilia unveiled the SXR 160 at the Auto Expo 2020 in February, it has been highly anticipated by the netizens. Initially, it was scheduled to be launched by the third quarter of this year but the COVID-19 pandemic shifted the plans further. Then in September 2020, Piaggio’s top honcho affirmed about its arrival in November. While we are still waiting for that to happen, the company has now announced that the production of the SXR 160 will begin at its Baramati plant soon.
The SXR 160 is a maxi-scooter which has been designed and developed in Italy, mainly for the Indian market. With this scooter, Aprilia intends to offer a two-wheeler with a sporty maxi styling, but in a convenient and practical package. It sports a designed inspired by Aprilia’s sportsbikes like the RS 660, which is complemented by modern features such as full-LED headlamp and tail lamp, and a fully-digital console. The brand will also offer a mobile connectivity accessory for different functions such as blowing security alarm, locating the scooter and immobilizing it.
The Aprilia SXR 160 shares most of its underpinnings with the SR 160sport scooter, but with certain revisions to match with its maxi character. It is powered by a 160cc, three-valve engine which is likely to make power and torque similar to the SR 160. It incorporates 12-inch wheels at both ends which are suspended by telescopic forks and adjustable rear monoshock. It is also admirable in terms of utility with a large footboard and a spacious under seat storage provision on offer.
Similar to other products by Piaggio, the Aprilia SXR 160 will also be on the expensive side with the price tag expected to be around Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
