- Aprilia SXR 160 India launch around November 2020
- Mainly developed for the Indian market
- Likely to be more expensive than the SR 160
Piaggio is all set to launch the Aprilia SXR 160 maxi-scooter in India around November this year. The confirmation was given by the brand’s top honcho, Diego Graffi, during the virtual launch of the Vespa Racing Sixties edition of the SXL 125 and SXL 150 scooters.
Piaggio had unveiled Aprilia SXR 160 at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The scooter has been designed and developed in Italy, mainly for the Indian market. It sports a maxi-scooter styling but also draws design inspiration from its upcoming sportsbike sibling, the RS660. The front fascia comprises of a wide and angular apron integrating sharp and compact full-LED headlamp. The sleek rear section also houses dual LED tail lamp while the instrumentation setup consists of an LCD dash.
Besides bestowing it with a sporty maxi styling, Piaggio has also paid attention to the convenience factor which is evident by its spacious footboard, roomy seat, front storage compartment and a USB charging port. Powering the SXR will be the same 160cc, three-valve, fuel-injected engine which propels the SR 160 sport scooter, but in a different state of tune. Also, the rest of the cycle parts such as the chassis and suspension will be the revised version of the SR 160’s components.
Although Piaggio hasn’t given any hint about its pricing, the Aprilia SXR 160 will certainly demand a substantial premium over the SR 160 which starts at Rs 1,04,812 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
