- Aprilia’s 250-300cc motorcycles in the pipeline
- Likely to be launched by 2021
- To be performance focused products
Aprilia’s India portfolio could soon include a range of 250-300cc motorcycles, the brand’s Managing Director, Diego Graffi revealed.
While some reports suggest that it could be launched in place of the 150cc motorcycle which is likely to be introduced sometime in 2020, we believe otherwise. The industry is surely moving towards higher displacements. However, in India, 150-200cc motorcycles still continue to rake in higher sales numbers as compared to those in the 250-300cc category.
Additionally, basing the launch timeline of this category of motorcycles to the sales of Royal Enfield in the country would be unfair to Aprilia itself. While Royal Enfield has been cashing in on its retro-styling/nostalgic element since the beginning of time, Aprilia would have to do something similar to be placed in that category, and it is unlikely to walk that path anytime soon. As of now, Aprilia has positioned itself as a performance brand with scooters like the SR125 and SR150 and big bikes like the RSV4 on offer.
Nevertheless, when it comes to small capacity motorcycles, the brand still has a clean slate and we expect it to test waters with a 150cc motorcycle specifically made for India. Coming back to the 250-300cc range, these motorcycles will also be performance focused products, keeping in tune with Aprilia’s brand image. We expect the manufacturer to introduce them in the country mostly by 2021. When launched, it will take on the TVS Apache RR 310 and 2020 KTM RC390 in India.
