Aravind KP was involved in a crash in the fifth stage of the Dakar rally. Although there aren’t any life-threatening injuries, the 30-year-old Sherco TVS rider sustained a fractured ankle, putting an end to his Dakar campaign.
Aravind’s crash occurred in the sand dunes of Peru, during the 330 kilometre special stage. After the crash, he was transported to a hospital in La Paz, where he is being treated for the fractured ankle. With Andrien Metge retiring in the second stage, Juan Pedrero Garcia is the only Sherco TVS rider on the grid. He finished at an impressive 18th in the fifth stage, and stands 15th in the overall rankings. CS Santosh meanwhile, maintained a steady pace and finished 51st. He stands 52nd in the overall rankings. His Hero Speedbrain team mate, Oriol Mena, finished 11th, and stands 21st overall.
The sixth stage of Dakar 2018 will be conducted between Arequipa and La Paz over 760 kilometres. With this, the circus now leaves Peru and the desert, moving on to the mountains of Bolivia.
