The scooter uses an electric motor that is powered by a lithium-ion battery and battery management system built by Ather. This motor is rated at 14Nm of torque and gives the 340 a top-speed of 72kmph. The battery pack can be charged to 80 per cent under an hour thanks to the fast-charging feature and provide a range of 60kms on a single full charge. Ather claims a battery life cycle of 50,000kms.
The scooter uses a telescopic fork up front and a monoshock for the rear. Stopping power comes from disc brakes on both ends along with a combined braking system (CBS). The Ather 340 also boasts of features like over-the-air updates, charging station location tracker, parking assist function, diagnostic services, touch-screen display with drive modes and on-board navigation.
Initially, the 340 will be available only in Bengaluru. Ather Energy which already has 30 charging stations in the city called the AtherGrid is planning to expand to 60 such facilities by the end of 2018. The company also plans to be present in 12 major cities in the next two years and 30 cities with 6,500 charging points by 2022. These charging points will be free to non-Ather customers for the first six-months after which a nominal fee of Rs 6 per unit will be charged.
Once launched, the Ather 340 will compete against the Okinawa Praise and the Twenty Two Motors Flow in India.
