Ather Energy commemorated a decade of its existence with the launch of the new 450 Apex electric scooter. This one marks the second special edition from the Bengaluru-based EV maker and will be in production for a limited run but in terms of time and not the number of units. Now, there are a few bits that the 450 Apex shares with the 450X and some that are exclusive to the former. Here is a list of all those.
Design
Ather has carried over the same sharp and sauve design for the 450 Apex from the standard model. Its pointed front end and aerodynamic side panels are shaped identically to the other 450s. However, the 450 Apex being a special edition benefits from transparent side panels with a gloss finish from the outside. This gives you a nice view of the orange frame on the inside and makes the scooter look more enticing than it already does.
Then, Ather has also equipped the 450 Apex with a cover for its belt drive. This should help to keep the dust and muck away from the internals, and enhance the belt’s life.
Features
Another area where the 450 Apex electric sets itself apart from its brethren is its features. This model comes with full LED illumination, five ride modes – Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, Sport, Warp and Warp Plus – a seven-inch touchscreen TFT with smartphone connectivity, dashboard auto-brightness, park assist, hill hold, auto indicator cut-off, coasting regenerative braking, and Magic Twist. We have explained the Magic Twist feature in the 450 Apex launch story as well.
Motor and Battery
Powering the new Ather scooter is a 7kW motor with a 3.7kWh battery. The duo offers 100kmph of top speed and a 157km certified range. The 450 Apex gets a 10kmph higher top speed compared to the standard model’s 90kmph. The higher top speed should aid better highway capabilities.
Hardware
On the hardware front, Ather has taken the don’t fix what is not broken approach. Everything you see on the 450X has made its way to the 450 Apex –from the telescopic front forks to the monoshock, a front and rear disc and the alloy wheels as well.
Price
Along with the aforementioned aspects, the asking price is another highlight that distinguishes the 450 Apex from the rest of the Ather lineup. It costs a whopping Rs. 1,89,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) and is ineligible for subsidy.
