The electric two-wheeler market is seeing a gradual upwards surge in terms of brands and models incoming in India. And some prominent names like the Ather 450 Plus Gen 3, TVS iQube S, Ola S1, and more are at the forefront. In this story, we’ll compare the Ather and TVS electric scooters on paper and see what the two models have to offer.
Design
The Ather 450 Plus, though oriented towards practicality, gets a fairly sporty design. Its front end packs an LED headlight with an LED DRL and the setup is quite neat with a dash of sharpness. Even the side panels get cuts and the overall theme is quite youthful. Meanwhile, the TVS iQube S follows a more conservative approach and gets a tad boxy design. It also packs LED illumination and a rather family-friendly build, which also comes off as quite practical.
Features
Both electric scooters are loaded with a bevy of features. Right from LED illumination to navigation, call and SMS alert, side stand cut-off, ride modes, regenerative braking, OTA updates, geo-fencing, and more, the TVS iQube and the Ather 450 Plus offer features to enhance the overall user experience. However, the iQube scores extra points here since it comes with music control, incognito mode, and anti-theft alert.
Motor and Battery
Ather offers the 450 Plus with a 3.3kW motor that’s mated to a 2.6kWh battery. It clocks a top speed of 80kmph and gets a range of 85km. The 450 can do 0-40kmph in 3.9 seconds. On the other hand, the TVS iQube benefits from a 3kW motor mated to a 3.4kWh battery. The said setup propels the iQube to 78kmph and offers a range of 100km. As for the 0-40kmph, the TVS scooter can do it in 4.2 seconds.
Hardware
Both electric scooters get telescopic front forks but the 450 Plus gets a rear monoshock where as the iQube gets twin rear springs. And for the braking hardware, Ather offers the scooter with a 220mm front and a 190mm rear disc while the iQube gets a 220mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum. The 450 Plus weighs 111.6kg and offers 22-litres of boot storage. The iQube tips the scales at 118.8kg and gets 17-litres of boot space.
Price
The asking price for the Ather 450 Plus is set at Rs 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru) while the iQube retails at 1.20 lakh (on-road Bengaluru).
