- Ather 450X catches fire
- Company takes responsibility
- Connectors were incorrectly torqued
An Ather electric scooter caught fire in Bengaluru a few days ago. This is the first time an EV from Ather has caught fire. However, the company has responded to this incident and has taken full responsibility.
According to the company, one of the connectors to the motor controller was incorrectly torqued due to sparks around the controller terminals. However, as soon as this issue was detected, the system cut off the power flow. But sadly, the entire wiring harness was on fire till then.
The company claimed that the battery, BMS and dashboard didn’t catch fire and remained utterly unaffected. This was a human error, and to prevent such incidents in the future, Ather Energy has updated its manufacturing process and also upgraded its equipment.
The Bengaluru-based company, however, hasn’t mentioned whether it will recall some of the 450X as the same assembling process would have been applied to all other e-scooters in that batch. Hopefully, we’ll hear from them on this soon.
Update: Ather Energy has said that it has no plans to issue a recall as only one scooter was affected by this.
