With the EV market in India seeing gradual growth, manufacturers are constantly updating their products. Bengaluru-based electric scooter manufacturer, Ather Energy too recently updated its flagship model and it’s now called the 450X Gen 3.
While the Ather 450X Gen 3 looks almost identical to the Gen 2, there are some notable differences to its internals and minor tweak to the design as well. Let’s take a look at everything that separates the two generations.
Battery Pack
The most important update on the Ather 450X Gen 3 compared to the Gen 2 is the new battery pack. The latest model is powered by a 3.7kWh lithium-ion battery against the predecessor’s 2.9kWh unit. That said, the motor hasn’t been tweaked and the output is rated at 6.2kW.
Range
Courtesy of the larger battery pack, the Ather 450X Gen 3 can clock 105km range in Eco mode and 85km in Ride mode. Comparatively, the 450X Gen 2 offered less range at 85km in Eco mode and 70km in Ride mode. Meanwhile, the 450 Plus now offers 85km against 70km in the Eco mode and 70km instead of 60km in Ride mode.
Charging time
With the larger battery, the charging time(s) has also altered. The battery now charges from 0 - 80 percent in 4 hours 30 minutes which is 55 minutes more than the older model. Contrastingly, the 0 - 100 percent charge time has dropped to 5 hours 40 minutes. That’s 5 minutes quicker than the Gen 2.
Features
Ather has also tweaked the features too on the 450X Gen 3. The e-scooter now gets a 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. The predecessor featured a 1GB RAM and an 8GB ROM. Ather claims that the latest update will make the overall UI quicker than before.
Dimensions
Another effect of the larger battery pack is the added weight to the Ather 450X. The Gen 3 model weighs 111.6kg while the Gen 2 weighs 108kg. That’s 3.6kg more weight than before. Ather has also equipped the 450X with rounder MRF tyres wrapped to its 12-inch wheels. Even the rearview mirrors have been tweaked for better visibility.
Price
The asking price for the Ather 450 Plus Gen 3 is set to Rs 1,34,247 and the 450X Gen 3 costs Rs 1,55,657 (both ex-showroom Bengaluru). Meanwhile, the older 450 Plus and the 450X retailed at Rs 2,000 and Rs 5,000 less, respectively.
