Ather Rizta Z vs TVS iQube S – Competition Check

Ather’s latest electric scooter launch, the Rizta, created quite some buzz in the two-wheeler market. This is the Bengaluru-based scooter-maker’s first shot at a family-oriented offering and offered in two trims – S and Z. But, TVS already has a similar offering, the iQube S on sale for a while now. So, we have compared the two on paper to tell you which would be better.

Design

Ather Rizta Left Front Three Quarter

The Ather Rizta Z has a boxy and mature design. Its bodywork comprises minimal cuts and creases and focuses more on practicality with the larger dimensions. The Rizta S gets a horizontally placed LED headlight and a small visor on the handlebar cowl. It sports a flat and long seat with a pillion backrest too. Meanwhile, the TVS iQube S takes a similar design approach but the scooter appears relatively compact. Then, it also has a DRL integrated into the handlebar cowl. The TVS iQube S too comes with a flat seat and a single-piece grab rail but sans the backrest.

Features

Ather Rizta TFT / Instrument Cluster

Along with the LED illumination, Ather has offered two ride modes – Smart Eco and Zip, traction control system, mobile charging, auto hold and reverse mode. The Z features a fully digital instrument console that supports smartphone connectivity for Google Maps, displays live traffic data and allows auto reply to calls and WhatsApp preview. The Rizta Z gets a Magic Twist feature to slow down the scooter without engaging the brakes using regenerative braking.

On the other hand, the iQube S uses LED illumination, navigation, call and SMS alerts, side-stand cut-off, ride modes, regenerative braking, OTA updates, and geo-fencing. The Rizta has more features and a better package overall.

Motor and Battery

Ather Rizta Left Rear Three Quarter

Powering the Rizta Z are two different battery pack options – 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. These offer a 123km and 160km range, respectively. Both settings get a top speed of 80kmph. TVS offers the iQube S with a 3.4kWh motor and a range of 100km. It gets 78kmph of top speed.

The Rizta has the upper hand here as it not only offers marginally higher top speed but also notably more range. This should reduce the number of times the rider would need to charge it throughout the week and add to the overall usability.

Hardware

Ather Rizta Front Disc Brake

Both scooters ride on telescopic front forks and a single rear shock. The braking hardware too is similar since the Rizta Z and the iQube S come with a front disc and rear drum brake. Even the 12-inch alloys are the same here. Overall, it's a draw between the Rizta and iQube on the hardware front.

Price

The Ather Rizta Z costs Rs. 1.25 lakh for the 2.9kWh battery and Rs. 1.45 lakh for the larger battery option. TVS retails the iQube S at Rs. 1.46 lakh (both ex-showroom, Bengaluru). So, the Ather Rizta Z offers more value for money than the iQube since the former has more features, better performance, and also lower asking price.
