India’s most anticipated electric scooter – the Ather S340 – has hit a hurdle. Ather Energy has postponed the launch of the S340 electric scooter by a year.
The Bangalore-based company had unveiled the prototype in February 2016 and had planned to hit the production line by the end of 2016. However, the company faced a lot of problems getting the production model ready.
Tarun, CEO & Co-founder, Ather Energy recently announced this development in an email to a prospective buyer. Tarun said that they highly under underestimated the challenge of developing a new product for a market that doesn’t accept electric vehicles easily. The top official also mentioned that the company faced difficulties finding the right team to work on this project, which directly pushed the official launch.
Backed by the Flipkart founders and Hero MotoCorp, Ather Energy wanted to change the electric scooter segment with the S340. This EV gets a lithium ion battery pack with a range up to 60km and a top speed of 72kmph. It takes one hour to achieve 80 per cent charge using the fast charging mode. The electric scooter’s battery pack claims a life cycle of 50,000km and a life span of 5 to 6 years.
