Ather will be launching the S340 in India on 5 June. Pegged as a smart electric scooter, the S340 boasts of a range of 60km and a top speed of 72kmph.
Ather is a Bangalore-based start-up, which first made waves back in 2014 with their ambitious plans for electric two-wheelers. They followed it up with the S340 prototype in February 2016. Two years later, the S340 is now ready to go on sale.
The S340 focuses more on providing a pleasant ownership experience than performance. It features cloud-based data and diagnostic services, touch-screen display with on-board navigation and pre-configured drive modes. A mobile app that can configure the ride and profile preferences.
At the heart of the S340 is an electric motor powered by lithium ion battery. It offers a range of up to 60 kilometres and a top speed of 72kmph. It can be charged to 80 per cent capacity in just one hour. The battery pack has a life cycle of 50,000km and a life span of 5 to 6 years.
Ather has so far managed to score funding to the tune of USD 40 million from Tiger Global and Flipkart founders. The S340 will be manufactured in Bangalore and will only be sold via the company’s website. We expect it to be priced between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1 lakh. The company recently launched the Ather Grid, under which it will be installing 30 charging points across Bangalore.
