We have seen quite a few electric concepts from budding star-ups in the past few years, although none of them have made it to the production lines. Until now. Ather Energy, a Bangalore-based firm, is going to launch its electric smart scooter, the S340, tomorrow. Here is what we can expect from the Ather S340 –
Smart display and connectivity
The highlight of the S340 is a seven-inch touchscreen display, a feature so far only seen in high-end cruisers. The display can be customised to show only the relevant information, and also integrates a navigation system. The scooter can also pair with your phone to remotely show the charging status, vehicle data and diagnostics on an app.
High-performance
While a top speed of 72kmph might not seem impressive when compared with petrol-powered scooters, it is worth noting that most of the electric scooters sold in India are limited to 40kmph. That would make the S340 one of the fastest electric scooters that you can buy. It can also sprint to 40kmph in just 5.1 seconds.
Fast charging
The S340’s electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery, which can be charged up to 80 per cent of its capacity in just one hour. This gives the S340 a range of 50 kilometres. One a full charge, it can cover 60 kilometres.
Low maintenance
Ather claims that their battery can last for up to 50,000 kilometres or five to six years. While a lithium ion battery is more expensive to replace than a lead-acid battery, the former’s long life should make it more affordable in the long run.
Reverse gear
The S340’s CVT transmission is also equipped with a reverse gear. This makes getting out of tight spots more convenient.
