- Will be dubbed the 450S
- To be introduced in the first week of August
- Will be the most affordable electric scooter from Ather
Ather Energy is set to unveil its most affordable electric scooter in India very soon. It will be called the Ather 450S and sit under the current 450X. While the brand has already revealed a handful of details and pricing for the 450S, the official bookings and sales will commence in the next month in August.
Ather has priced the new 450S at Rs. 1.29 lakh and it’ll get a top speed of 90kmph with an IDC (ideal driving conditions) range of 115km. The brand has also teased the 450S on its social media and the video hints at a probable LCD for the scooter. This will be one of the ways to bring the overall cost down. However, the scooter could still get smartphone connectivity as a standard feature.
Apart from that, we expect no design changes on the 450S. So, it will likely sport the same sharp, compact, and youthful design as the current model. Even the front forks, rear monoshock, and front and rear disc brake with a belt drive could remain unchanged. The lower range for the 450S than the 450X is a result of the smaller, 3kWh battery pack. This also means that the new e-scooter model could shed a few kilos and be lighter on its feet.
Once launched, the Ather 450S will rival the Ola S1, TVS iQube S, Bajaj Chetak, and other e-scooters in the same segment. While this would be a welcome addition to the brand’s portfolio and attract more buyers looking for an electric two-wheeler, we can still see some room for a slightly larger scooter as well.
