- Aprilia SXR160 maxi-scooter unveiled
- Smaller 125cc version will also be available
- Bookings to commence in August
Piaggio has unveiled its all-new maxi-scooter, the Aprilia SXR160, at the ongoing Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi. The scooter has been designed and developed in Italy for the Indian market. Bookings for the SXR160 will commence in August this year while the launch will take place some time in the third quarter of 2020.
Although the overall silhouette of the SXR exemplifies a quintessential maxi-scooter, it boasts of edgy lines across its bodywork taking inspiration from Aprilia’s sportsbikes. Notably, the design of the headlamp and tail lamp borrow clear inspiration from the brand’s supersport offering, the RS660. However, the large floorboard, front storage bin and capacious seat indicate that it is meant to deliver practicality. As for the features, illumination is taken care of by all-LED lighting and instrumentation comprises of a fully-digital LCD unit.
Overall the SXR160 is based on its existing sportier sibling, the SR160. It is based on the same chassis, albeit with minor tweaks such as a more relaxed rake angle. Similarly, the 160cc, three-valve, fuel-injected engine is also retained from the SR. However, the motor will be tuned slightly differently in order to suit its character. The company hasn’t revealed the power figures of the SXR but we believe it won’t be as performance-oriented as its SR sibling.
The maxi scooter rides on 12-inch wheels at both ends which are suspended by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by a disc at the front and a drum at the rear assisted by combined braking setup.
Aprilia has announced that the SXR will also be available in a 125cc form. The smaller version will lock horns with the Suzuki Burgman Street 125 which is currently the only maxi scooter on sale in India.
