Suzuki has taken the wraps off the updated models of its quarter-litre offerings, the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250, at the Auto Expo 2020 in India. To make things further interesting, the bike maker has also showcased the MotoGP edition of the former, which is already present for the fully-faired SF model. Prices of these motorcycle will be disclosed by March 2020.
Since both bikes feature Suzuki’s new-age design, they have remained unchanged on the aesthetic front. However, the brand’s Ecstar decals borrowed from Suzuki’s MotoGP machines make the naked Gixxer all the more attractive.
What’s majorly updated is the engine which now adheres to the BS6 emission norms scheduled to be operational from 1 April 2020. The 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled motor of the bikes now produce 26.1bhp at 9300rpm and 22.2Nm at 7300rpm. While power has remained unchanged, torque has gone slightly down by 0.4Nm. The powerplant comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Both bikes ride on 17-inch alloy wheels which are suspended by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Stopping power is delivered by disc brakes at both ends along with dual-channel ABS. Despite the BS6-bound changes, both bikes remain unaltered in terms of weight. While the naked version weighs at 156kgs, the faired version tips the scales at 161kgs. The fuel tank capacity of the 250cc twins stand at 12 litres.
In India, the Gixxer 250 competes against the KTM 250 Duke and the FZ 25 while the SF 250 locks horns with the Honda CBR250R.
