- Expected to launch electric two-wheelers in the next three-four years
Giving us a peek into its future for the Indian market, Piaggio showcased the Vespa Electtrica electric scooter at the Auto Expo 2020. While the Electtrica is already available in a few international markets, the brand displayed it in India to show its intentions to bring electric mobility solutions in the country.
While the Electtrica boasts of a styling similar to the conventional petrol-powered Vespa offerings, sitting under the rear panel is a 4.3kWh lithium-ion battery which powers a brushless DC motor with 3.6kW continuous power and 4kW peak power. It comes with two riding modes including eco and power which deliver a range of around 100kms and 70kms, respectively. The top speed of the scooter is rated at 70kmph in eco and 45kmph in power mode.
The Vespa Electtrica rides on 12-inch and 10-inch wheels. Damping duties are handled by single-sided trailing link suspension up front and a monoshock at the rear while braking is taken care of by a 200mm disc and a 140mm drum. The scooter is also loaded with modern features such as a TFT instrument cluster which connects with smartphone via Bluetooth and shows ample of information on ‘Vespa Connectivity’ mobile app. Also, it comes equipped with full-LED lighting.
While the company hasn’t revealed any timeline for the introduction of its electric two-wheelers in India, expect Piaggio to do that in the next three-four years.
