- Suzuki Katana makes its first appearance in India
- Packs a 145bhp, 999cc, in-line four cylinder motor
- Could be launched in India depending on the demand
Amidst all the BS6 models from Suzuki’s India line-up, the Japanese bike maker’s litre-class naked, the Katana posed as one of the showstoppers at the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi. Notably, the motorcycle has been showcased in India for the first time.
The Katana is Suzuki’s one of the special offerings as it harks back to the brand’s iconic 1981 Katana. The motorcycle bows down to its ancestor by drawing several styling cues from the older model. Occupying the front end is a distinctive square-shaped headlamp which is flanked by sleek fairing protruding ahead. The neatly sculpted fuel tank blends with the upswept floating-type tail section integrating compact LED tail lamp.
At the heart of the matter is 999cc, in-line four behemoth which is borrowed from the GSX-S1000 naked streetfighter. It churns out 145bhp of power and 106Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox along with slipper clutch. In the electronics department, the Katana maintains its retro character with just basic features for a motorcycle of this class. The list comprises of an LCD instrument cluster, three-level switchable traction control and dual channel ABS.
The Suzuki Katana is already on sale in the international markets. When asked if the brand will launch this bike in India, the spokesperson affirmed that if the demand for such premium bikes rises in the future, they might bring it to our shores as a CKD (completely knocked down) model.
